Kristian Matsson, better known as The Tallest man On Earth, brought his North American Henry St. Tour to Mercury Ballroom on October 9th. Matsson is touring in support of the new The Tallest Man On Earth album, Henry St. Starting out the evening was Nebraska singer-songwriter Andrea von Kampen. With just herself and an acoustic guitar, she sang about a 45-minute set of songs, serenading the crowd with her beautiful voice. She was really funny and cheeky too, telling plenty of funny stories between songs and having fun with the crowd. She was a great start to the evening! Performing to a modest but passionate crowd of fans, Matsson gave an energetic and fun performance, playing a wide variety of instruments throughout his set that included the mandolin, banjo, steel guitar, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, and piano. Performing a set list that included many older songs, including his hit song “1904” from the 2012 album There’s No Leaving Now, he also performed several from his new album. He chatted quite a bit with the crowd during his set, saying “I performed here for the first time ever 15 years ago! I opened for Bon Iver at Headliners!”. He talked about how grateful he was to be on stage, performing for everyone here this evening, as well as how he happy he was to have Andrea von Kampen as support for this tour. Whether he was performing solo with his guitar or on the piano, or with his band mates this evening, or whether he was dancing around the stage, kneeling at the edge, leading the crowd in sing-alongs, or engaging with his band mates, he kept the crowd enthralled and engaged. His energy was electric and contagious, permeating every inch of the venue. The passion with which he performs is a sight to behold and is truly captivating. The band performed an encore this evening after briefly leaving the stage, taking a bow as a band at the end in gratitude to the audience for their presence and applause. It was truly an incredible evening!
