Louisville, KY

August 31st, 2024

On August 31st, California heavy metal band High on Fire started out their Cometh The Storm North American Tour in Louisville, KY, wowing the packed venue of fans at Mercury Ballroom! Founded by front man Matt Pike in 1998, the band has cultivated a passionate and ever-growing fan base over the years, with this evening’s crowd being no exception. Having just released their latest album in April of this year, Cometh The Storm, the band performed several songs from the album this evening. As the band came out on stage, the crowd roared in applause. The band wasted no time getting started, performing new songs such as “Karanlik Yol”, “Burning Down”, “Sol’s Golden Curse”, “Cometh The Storm”, and “Darker Fleece”. They also performed tracks from their older albums, such as “Fury Whip”, “Rumors of War”, “Fertile Green”, “Snakes For The Divine”, and “Hung, Drawn and Quartered”. Matt Pike is a dynamic front man, playing his guitar and singing with a fury of energy and aggression that had the fans in the crowd returning that energy right back. Bassist Jeff Matz delivered powerful riffs throughout the set, often times on his double neck bass/guitar, and drummer Coady Willis unleashed a whirlwind of energy on the drums. Although Pike chatted a bit with the crowd between songs, thanking the fans for coming out and for their support over the years, the band mostly blew through their 11-song set with an loud and heavy intensity. By the end of the evening, they definitely left their fans satisfied and wanting more! Let’s hope they come back to Louisville soon! Opening the show this evening was North Carolina stoner and sludge metal band Weedeater, a crowd favorite, as well as local stoner/doom metal band Shi, which drew a sizeable crowd of friends and fans. It was an overall great night of music!
