Something Corporate
The Fillmore
Detroit, MI
September 20, 2024
Friday night, the Fillmore in Detroit came alive with the nostalgic sounds of Something Corporate, who delivered an unforgettable performance as part of their “Out Of The Office Tour” that transported fans back to the early 2000s.
As the lights dimmed and the opening chords of “Straw Dog” echoed through the venue, the crowd erupted with excitement, setting the tone for an evening of pure pop-punk bliss.
Following the opening track, they seamlessly transitioned into “I Want To Save You,” igniting the audience’s energy even further. Lead vocalist Andrew McMahon’s signature voice was as powerful as ever, resonating with emotion that had the crowd singing along passionately.
Their chemistry on stage was undeniable; the camaraderie between band members made the performance feel like a celebration rather than just a concert. Andrew McMahon mentioned that “we’re not doing this for you or us, but for each other” and I think everyone in the crowd that night agreed with his statement.
The musicianship was top-notch throughout the evening. Josh Partington’s guitar riffs were sharp and melodic, while the rhythm section kept the energy high.
During “Only Ashes” lead singer McMahon made his way up on the balcony, shaking hands with fans along the way.
The band has been recording new music and fans got to hear their new single “Happy” live. If you have not checked it out yet, I highly recommend you do.
As they neared the end of the set, the excitement reached a fever pitch with “Punk Rock Princess” and “I Woke Up In A Car.” The crowd’s enthusiasm was infectious, with everyone singing along, creating a wall of sound that echoed through the historic venue.
One of the standout moments of the encore was the performance of “Konstantine.” The atmospheric arrangement and McMahon’s heartfelt delivery created a magical connection with the audience, transforming the Fillmore into an intimate space despite its size. The emotional weight of the song was palpable, as fans swayed together, lost in memories and feelings evoked by the lyrics.
The band closed the night with “If You C Jordan,” leaving fans both satisfied and wanting more.
Overall, Something Corporate’s concert at the Fillmore was a triumphant return for the beloved band. Their blend of nostalgia, energy, and emotional depth made for an exceptional night, reaffirming why they remain a cherished staple in the hearts of fans. For anyone who grew up with their music, this show was a beautiful reminder of the soundtrack to their youth, and for those new to the band, a compelling introduction to their timeless sound. Here’s hoping it won’t be too long before they grace the stage again!
