Currently on the road across North America with Bloc Party, Corbu’s unique indie-electronic sound has been winning crowds over since their formation back in 2012. Chatting with us in an interview that will be coming out next week, frontman Jonathan Graves shared with us the pivotal person in his life that helped him realize his love for music.

“I was lucky enough to have a really great music teacher in elementary school, who went out of his way to make me feel like I had something. His class was the first time I was ever happy in school.

There was a day when he had us play simple rhythms on chairs while he played piano. At some point, he told us to improvise, and I guess I caught his attention because he had me play a “drum solo” in front of the class. I remember being 9 or 10 and thinking, “Maybe this is what I’m good at?”

I always wonder how many people would have been successful, working artists if someone had noticed them and encouraged them along the way.”
