Natalie Fideler premieres her alternative rock single “Judas”

Natalie Fideler is the front person of the 3 person band of the same name, consisting of herself as the songwriter on guitar, keyboards, and lead vocals, Hailey Jacobsen on bass, and Leigh Underwood on drums. Their alt-rock style is influenced by Natalie’s love of composition and songwriting and their completely vulnerable lyrics speak truth to the human experience. Today sees the premiere of the group’s new alt-rock song “Judas,” a catchy yet funky song that has a Good Charlotte meets Liz Phair with a hint of Snail Mail in Natalie’s vocals. The song opens with a funky bass beat and goes into an impassioned melody that hooks the listener in. While the music tells us one story, the lyrics tell another. “Judas” is personal for Natalie as it reflects on her relationship with both the Catholic and Evangelical churches. Her family was not the “good” model of a Christian family and what that is supposed to look like.

“‘Judas’ is about my upbringing in a religiously abusive church. I was raised Catholic and went to Catholic school until age 12. My family then switched to an evangelical christian church when my sister and I were bullied out of our Catholic school, and my mother went to rehab to recover from a narcotic addiction. This evangelical church was our home for many years, but my family was constantly picked on for being outside of the mold of what a “good” christian family/household looked like. As a family of two divorced and re-married parents, one of which was a drug addict, and two gay daughters, one of which was still in the closet, we constantly received hateful messages from the members of the congregation. It started off feeling like we needed to make “good” changes in our lives to receive whatever goodness God was seemingly giving to the rest of the congregation, but we could only take it for so long. It became evident as the years went on that the church never wanted to accept us and love us unconditionally; they wanted to change us to fit their mold or else we didn’t get a seat at the table.”

“It started off feeling like we needed to make “good” changes in our lives to receive whatever goodness God was seemingly giving to the rest of the congregation, but we could only take it for so long,” shares Natalie. “It became evident as the years went on that the church never wanted to accept us and love us unconditionally; they wanted to change us to fit their mold or else we didn’t get a seat at the table. The youth group services and retreats my sister and I attended were riddled with religious propaganda and manipulative tactics that we are sincerely still processing.”

Natalie’s solo music career began in 2018 with the release of her debut album “Steak & Eggs” which features Natalie herself on all instruments and vocals. She now performs with a band consisting of herself as the songwriter on guitar, keyboards, and lead vocals, Hailey Jacobsen on bass, and Leigh Underwood on drums. Natalie’s indie nerd-rock combines her love for composition and songwriting into catchy tunes that will leave you dancing and ripping your heart out at the same time. Her vulnerable lyrics transform each song into a story that speaks the truth of raw human experience, whether it be tongue in cheek or right on the nose. She will be releasing her sophomore record “Three Man Army” on May 13th, 2022. You can connect with Natalie Fideler via the following links:
