Brittany and The Blisstones premiere “Mermaid”. Their debut EP to be released in May of 2022.

Brittany Bliss and Reid Givens, the island pop singer/songwriter duo known as Brittany and the Blisstones, met in 2017 at an open mic. Starting the night as solo acts, they left as a duo in the making, both in music and life. In addition to their own music, Brittany and the Blisstones hope to create a space where female artists, sound engineers, and producers get exposure for their work. Today sees the premiere of their first original single as a pair called “Mermaid,” from their debut EP to be released in May 2022. “Mermaid” is the first song Brittany ever wrote, dating back to 2018. Brittany has always felt a strong spiritual connection to the ocean, and this song is about the gifts of paying attention to the lessons nature has to teach us. “Mermaid”  is calming, yet groovy, with a Jamaican beat meets pop sound. Brittany plays the Ukelele against a catchy trumpet melody that’s sure to get stuck in your head. Her voice is aerial, hypnotic, and ethereal, similar to a softer Sia meets Susan Tedeschi.

“The pain that comes with living is inevitable, and it can breed fear that may stop us from daring to dream. Our songs are about finding the courage to face these fears, and being vulnerable and evolving,” shares Brittany. Reid adds: “These songs are born from our collective experience. There are uplifting vibes here, and when the songs are sad, they are there for solace.”

Since forming in 2018, Brittany and The Blisstones have managed to earn an engaged fanbase through organic online exposure and their warmly intimate live shows. The duo has performed in various musical settings around the local Chico area and beyond, including playing venues in Berkeley and Oakland. The couple’s robust profile has enabled them to fund their EP through a successful crowdfunding campaign—a rare feat for an artist without previous releases. This song is about connecting with nature and listening to the wisdom it has to offer and growth it nurtures. “Mermaid” is infectious and one that will be on replay for a long time.
