Friday night was a perfect night at Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls. Hailing in from Canada were the Barenaked Ladies and they had good friends Del Amitri and Five For Fighting opening up for them.
Shortly after 9 pm the “Ladies” started their set with “Matter Of Time” followed by two of their biggest hits “It’s All Been Done” and “Old Apartment“. What followed was a great variety of hits, some songs off their latest album “Detour de Force”, and a new song off their upcoming release “In Flight” which will be released in September 2023.
In between songs the band members joked with each other and told stories. Lead singer Ed Robertson told us about their hotel stay in Cleveland the night before, where he sent his manager and bandmembers photos of his shower, which wasn’t draining, without realizing his reflection in the mirror. He jokingly said that they could use it as the cover for an album and name it”full frontal”
This being the second to last show of the tour they mentioned how grateful they are to still be doing this and sometimes don’t even realize it until fans come up to them and tell them just HOW IMPORTANT their music is to them. They continued by dedicating “When I Fall” to one of their fans they met earlier during the Meet & Greet.
A definite highlight was a medley of covers that included, “If You Could Read My Mind”, “Flowers”, “As It Was”, “Take on Me”, “Climb Ev’ry Mountain” and “So Long, Farewell,” from The Sound of Music, followed by “Rock of Ages” by Def Leppard!
The night ended with a fantastic cover of Steve Miller’s “Jet Airliner”.
