The Wombats with Cigarettes @ Sunset
Mercury Ballroom
Louisville, KY
February 14th, 2026
English indie rock band The Wombats brought their North America 2026 Tour to Mercury Ballroom on Valentines Day! The venue was packed with fans celebrating the holiday of love with live music mixed in, creating a fun atmosphere of fans ready to have a great night! The band came out on stage to a roar of cheers and applause and launched into their set, starting things off with “”Moving To New York”, “Techno Fan”, and “Cheetah Tongue”. Singer/guitarist Matthew Murphy stated early in the set that the band had released their most recent album, Oh! The Ocean, exactly one year ago today and performed several songs from the album, including “Sorry I’m Late, I Didn’t Want To Come”, “Can’t Say No”, and “Blood On The Hospital Floor”, as well as some older fan favorites! The Wombats are an incredible live band, with lots of energy and crowd interaction and engagement, with Murphy chatting quite a bit with the crowd throughout the set, as well as the band engaging in funny banter with each other. A few songs into the set, they had someone wearing a wombat costume come out on stage to play the trombone, which was a fun moment for the crowd! The band “ended” their set with “Turn”, before leaving the stage and coming back out moments later for a 2-song encore. Starting off the encore with “Greek Tragedy”, they then closed out the evening with their hit song “Let’s Dance To Joy Division”, complete with having 2 costume-clad wombats to come out on stage to join in the party! It was the perfect end to a great evening! Opening the show this evening was Cigarettes @ Sunset, self-described as Appalachian Possum Rock. They were super fun, funny, and upbeat and got everyone dancing and ready for the night ahead!
