California indie-pop band Saint Motel brought their ‘Saint Motel & The Symphony In The Sky’ Tour to Mercury Ballroom on October 10th to a packed house! In February of this year, the band released the album Saint Motel & The Symphony In The Sky, performing several songs from the album this evening that included “Steady Hand”, “Fine Wine”, “Life’s A Gas”, “Hold My Place In Heaven”, “A Bluer Blue”, and “Get It At Home”. This day also saw the release of their most recent album Afterglow, with the band performing “Wait & See” from the album this evening. The stage production was stunning, with soft blue light that mixed with a kaleidoscope of other colors, a backdrop of stars twinkling, and the silhouette of orchestra members playing a variety of instruments behind a translucent screen at the back of the stage. It looked as though a shadowed orchestra was performing along with the rest of the band, which made for a beautiful visual. The band were all dressed up nicely in suits, with singer/songwriter/producer AJ Jackson’s suit being a dark blue with silver stars adorning it, keeping with the stage theme.
Saint Motel is an incredible live band, giving 100% this evening for the hundreds of fans in attendance this evening. AJ Jackson is a dynamic front man and true performer, keeping the crowd engaged throughout the set. He often had a wand in his hand, either acting as a conductor to the silhoutetted orchestra or leading the crowd in sing-alongs. During “Steady Hand”, towards the end of their pre-encore set, Jackson got into the crowd, sitting on the ground in front of the barricade, amongst the fans who were singing right along with him. After next singing “Cold Cold Man” back on stage, the band briefly exited the stage. The encore started out with Jackson singing the first song upstairs, at the front of the balcony, before going back up on stage for the remainder of the encore. The encore included “A Bluer Blue”, “Sweet Talk”, and “Van Horn”, with the show ending with “My Type”. Opening the show this evening was 21-year old Chicago singer/songwriter/producer Adan Diaz, who got the crowd warmed up with his fun and quirky stage presence and he and his band’s upbeat vibes! It was a really incredible night of music.
