La Luz with Mia Joy

Seattle rock band La Luz brought their News of The Universe Tour to Louisville, KY on October 1st to a sizable crowd of fans. The band released their latest album, News of The Universe, in May and are touring in support of the album. They had a fun stage set up that included flowers/leaves wrapped around the mic stands and a projector screen that displayed images of stars, psychedelic images and colors, spaceships, and planets as their backdrop throughout the set. As they came onto the stage, they held up a large, gold and shimmery cut out of the sun, complete with a mouth/teeth and googly eyes, leaving it on the right side of the stage as they performed. It definitely brightened up the mood of the room, creating a fun and uplifting energy! It’s always fun when a band has props! Early in the set, singer/guitarist Shana Cleveland threw a green inflatable alien into the crowd for everyone to hit around the room, kind-of like a beach ball! It had everyone smiling and laughing while trying to keep it afloat! Starting out their set with “Close Your Eyes” and “I Wanna Be Alone (With You)”, they performed several tracks from the new album, including “Strange World”, “Good Luck With Your Secret”, and “I’ll Go With You”, along with some older tracks, as well. They had a really good energy on stage and had fun interacting with each other and the crowd. Cleveland told the crowd that this was the band’s first time in Louisville and that they were having fun on this tour visiting some cities they hadn’t been to before. As they ended their set, the band left the stage, only to come back out moments later for a 3-song encore. Starting off the encore with “Blue Jay”, which Cleveland said she had written as a lullaby for her son, they ended the evening with “Moon In Reverse” and “Sure As Spring”. It was a fun night that had everyone singing, dancing, and in good spirits! Chicago artist Mia Joy opened the show this evening, wowing the crowd with her and her band’s rocking, yet melodic tunes!
