Kim Gordon with Bill Nace

Headliners Music Hall

Louisville, KY

June 17th, 2024

Kim Gordon brought her The Collective Tour to Headliners Music Hall on June 17th to a packed house. If it wasn’t a sold out show, it was very close to it, as the crowd filled the floor area and the balcony. Although Kim Gordon is well-known as being a founding member of the iconic NY rock band Sonic Youth, since the band’s disbanding in 2011 she has enjoyed success with many different musical projects and a solo career. She has released two solo albums, with this tour supporting her second release The Collective, released this year. As she and her band (Camilla Charlesworth (bass), Sarah Register (guitar), and Madi Vogt (drums)) took the stage, the crowd erupted in applause as they went straight into the first song. Starting things off with “BYE BYE”, they proceeded to perform The Collective in it’s entirety, with the crowd cheering and dancing throughout the set. Aside from an occasional “Thank you all so much” between songs, Gordon focused on the music this evening, speaking very little. And the dim lighting added to the intimacy of the evening, with Gordon commenting a few songs in that the dimmer lighting was much better! With her signature vocals and experimental sounds that included some synthy vibes thrown into the mix, it was a riveting performance. Her encore included 4 songs from her 2019 solo album No Home Record, which included “Air BnB”, “Paprika Pony”, “Cookie Butter”, and “Hungry Baby”, as well as her 2021 single “Grass Jeans”, which ended the set. She put on a great show and left her audience enthralled and cheering for the duration of her set. Opening the show this evening was experimental guitarist and visual artist Bill Nace, who also performs with Gordon in the experimental electric guitar duo Body/Head.
