If you have yet to hear QUIÑ’s voice, needless to say you soon will. From humble beginnings singing in church choir to a well received set at this year’s SXSW, the singer-songwriter has been making waves in the music industry. In the midst of QUIÑ’s tour with JMSN, Stitched Sound had the opportunity to talk with her about her own musical journey.
Stitched Sound: What first influenced you to begin writing and composing music?
QUIÑ: My feelings.
SS: You describe your music as “Fantasy Soul”. What does this mean to you and how do you feel this shapes your music?
Q: I feel that my music is from a space of fantasy, and my soul makes the music.
SS: Many listeners may know you through your collaborations, particularly with G-Eazy. What’s the process like that goes into a successful collaboration?
Q: All my collaborations are based on natural relationships. That’s what makes it the most successful to me. It’s fun making good music with your friends.
SS: You released your debut EP, GALACTICA, last fall and are now coming off of a tour with JMSN. How does it feel to be performing these songs live?
Q: It’s a blessing to share the music, and it’s a fun experiment to see how perfectly GALACTICA and my new project DREAMGIRL go together.
SS: Your music videos are full of otherworldly imagery that compliments your ethereal vocals. How do you view the relationship between visuals and music?
Q: Visuals are just as important as the music.
SS: In the future, what can we expect to see (or hear) from QUIÑ?
Q: Expect the unexpected and know there will always be new music.
Be sure to keep up with QUIÑ on instagram and twitter and be on the lookout for new music from the fantasy soul singer.
