Over the past few years Bishop Briggs, the musical pseudonym of Sarah Grace McLaughlin, has been earning popular praise for her emotional potent vocals and powerful songs. The LA based musician released her debut album just last month, and has ventured out on tour in support of it. With a closet full of Adidas and her hair styled in space buns, Bishop Briggs, joined by Foreign Air, performed a sold out show in Boston on Saturday.
With the house lights dimming, Foreign Air were the first to take the stage of the already filled venue. Their electronic-drenched alternative music filled the venue’s atmosphere and gave the audience a breath of, well, fresh air. Foreign Air even managed to revive the previously overdone Walmart/Yodel Boy meme, remixing it in a fashion void of cringe. Bishop Briggs was next to perform, this time without any memes; however, an enthusiastic audience member did manage to throw a Hello Kitty stuffed toy onto the stage. Aside from this, Briggs’ music feels heavy emotional, and dark. Whereas this may be true, the happiness radiating from the musician infected the whole venue, making for a wonderful evening.
